LIFE Remine Water and LIFE Conquer projects were presented at Aquatech Congress on 2nd to 5th November 2021 in Amsterdam by Clàudia Pastor, Project Manager at Cetaqua.
Her presentation “Innovative brine minimization and valorisation solutions for the mining and municipal water markets” was split in two parts. The first part of the presentation was focused on demonstrating innovative solutions for brine concentration in the mining sector, in which water can be recovered to enhance water quality discharged and boost the recovery of valuable by-products.
Likewise, the management of brines that involves membrane processes, one of the main challenges of Reclaimed Water Treatment Plants, which receive industrial brine and suffer marine intrusion, was discussed. Brine management costs up to €0.7/ m3 and has an associated environmental impact that can be a barrier to the implementation of these systems in some scenarios.
The second part of the presentation was focused on the innovative brine recovery treatment that produces sodium hypochlorite from brines using electrochemical technologies such as selective electrodialysis and electrochlorination.
Aquatech Amsterdam is the world’s leading trade exhibition for process, drinking and wastewater. The exhibition is a unique concept in Europe with a 100% focus on water, with a visitor attendance of 15,000+ and over 550+ exhibitors every other year.
